Sheer outfits are everywhere if you haven’t happened to notice just yet…
As a fashion blogger and designer, one of my main hobbies is obsessively stalking the runway shows and the street styles that are all declaring the next trend to take over our feeds.
Some of them though, admittedly, are harder to translate into normal life and a normal wardrobe.
Sheer is one of the hottest trends over the last couple of years, I think because it was hard to be overdone (like most fads are) when it’s not usually an appropriate one to wear out.

But if you want in on this movement of shiny sheer tops and nearly invisible dresses, I’ve compiled a list of gorgeous sheer outfit looks for spring that are appropriate for the public.
I’m also getting a lot of aesthetically cute layered outfit ideas for the season.

Layering Ideas
Layering under your sheer outfit is easy, once you get a feel for how the piece fits and you know how fitted the bottom layer has to be.
1. Nude Tank
The timeless go-to for this is a nude tank top. This is the game changer that will stay in your closet forever and will make just about anything sheer appropriate for any and every occasion.
2. Matching Bralette
The bralette that’s full coverage doesn’t make this super scandalous.
3. Long Tops
Putting longer tops over a skirt is perfect to cover everything that needs coverage while walking around in public.
4. Contrasting Layers
Contrasting color layers make the outfit visually interesting if all paired together well.
5. Matching Layers
But the matching layers also make this look edgy and cohesive all at once.
6. Black Blocking Pieces
Blocking is my favorite way to layer under sheer pieces!
7. Fitted Top And Shorts
If you want a little funky outfit, this top and shorts are a fun way to get it.
8. Leather Jacket
The leather jacket is a great way to add something over the sheer instead of under it.
9. As An Accessory
Throwing on something sheer as an outer layer like an accessory makes this super appropriate for the public. It’s a different look, but that can totally work in your favor!
10. Slip Dress
Let the slip dresses do what they were made to do!
11. Patterned Tights
If you really want to make a statement with a sheer outfit, the patterned tights make this pretty interesting.
How To Wear Sheer
Wearing sheer is fun because it can go so many different ways. There’s not one answer to “how to wear sheer,” but here are some of my favorite responses and examples!
12. Bikini Cover
This sheer bikini cover dress is a dream for your beach trip this summer.
13. Black Pieces
We’ve seen it time and time again with this trend, but this is the coolest way to wear a sheer dress.
14. Keep It Simple
Keeping it simple is the best way to make something like this work. Going over the top can only go one of two ways… Either really cool or way too much. Simple is elegant always!
15. High Waisted
High waisted bottoms work great when the legs come out.
16. Matching Tank Top
A tank top that matches the top itself is a classic take. Monochrome is always a cool look, and if that works for the sheer outfit too, then it’s a win all around.
17. Overlay
Having a super cropped piece over your bra makes it feel like a simple overlay.
18. Nude Under Lace
Nude pieces under white lace is so sexy but without trying too hard.
19. Tube Top
A plain tube top under mesh is so cute. It keeps it solid but also adds a little bit of fun without adding too much to the outfit.
20. The Tie Top
Tied tops are some of the easiest ways to rock a semi-sheer look.
21. Leather And Lace
Light and airy and tough and edgy are my favorite combinations. This look is a great way to balance out a feminine look with an edge.
22. Contrasting Layers
A bright red under these yellow pants is such an iconic statement.
Making It Modest
It’s not as hard as you think! Bodysuits, tanks, and slip skirts are all great options that you probably already have in your closet.
23. Make It A Third Piece
A third piece in fashion is usually how we refer to a part of the outfit that doesn’t act as a necessary part of the outfit. It’s the finishing touch, but you’re not bare without it.
24. Neutral Unders
Even the most fitted sheer pieces allow space for a neutral piece. This top goes so well with the bra that I hardly notice it until I’m looking for it.
25. Full Tank Top
The full tank top under a jacket like this will never be wrong.
26. Puff Sleeve
Layering a puff sleeve top under a slip dress is a super cute way to change up the slip dress trend we know and love so well.
27. Full Coverage
It’s not a bralette but it’s not a tank top either. Whatever this is is full coverage without taking away from the look either.
28. Blazer
A blazer as a contrasting style piece is the coolest way to make it modest. It’s visually interesting to combine a piece that is more of a party look with something so business coded.
29. High Neck Layer
This doesn’t look like you layered to be modest, this looks like you layered for the contrasting styles. A high neck with a low buttoned blouse adds something dynamic.
30. Different Length Slip
If you still want that airy and see through sheer vibe without anything actually on display, simply grabbing a skirt that’s longer than the slip is the best way to go.
31. Fun Bodysuit
Throwing a fun bodysuit on underneath is a perfect way to keep all of the layers cool.
32. Bomber Jacket
Good bomber jackets are back in style, and this combination is a dream.
33. Full Outfit
This gives dresses over jeans a whole new meaning!
See Through Style Outfits
Outfits using sheer pieces are simple. Playing around with them and seeing what you like is fun and it makes a normal outfit just a little more interesting.
34. Barely Zipped
While this is pretty funky, I really like how her bust is covered in the sheer with the jacket zipped from the top. It just adds to the different layers and levels of the outfit.
35. Sweet Blue
I adore this in a sweet blue.
36. Beach Coverup
The best way to incorporate this trend is with your beach looks.
37. Nude Slip Dress
The way this nude slip almost goes unnoticed is elite. It’s just perfect.
38. Dark Fabrics
By choosing darker fabrics, it’s almost not even sheer at some point. So this one really keeps you in the modest zone while having a hint of spice.
39. Contrasting
This is a beautiful example of a design choice that leads you to have that sheer look but with a contrasting garment.
40. Solid Slip
Especially when the sheer layer has so much texture, a solid slip only adds structure to it.
41. Rock On
Metallic layers and black mesh… What else can you ask for?
42. Statement Piece
Almost every outfit needs a statement piece.
43. Street Style
I love this example of a street style way to wear a sheer skirt.
Why Is Sheer In Style?
This is a really fun question! We all know that Y2K and 2000’s fashion has been big in fashion since the pandemic (what’s the correlation?!) and this is one of those micro trends that we saw a lot of in that era.
Since the fad of the 2000’s has cooled down a little bit, there are things that stayed.
Major brands and designers found elements of the overall style to hold onto, that feels like it needed a refresh.
And we’re seeing a new version of it, that’s for sure!
However you wear it, it’s still ultimately a 2000’s resurgence micro trend, but since fashion is cyclical, we can also just say… it’s in style because it’s high fashion!
How To Make Sheer Modest
Layers, of course!
Holding up a completely sheer dress, you probably have 100 questions running through your mind.
All you have to do is layer, and then you get the fun part of wearing something sheer and a little provocative in nature, but with layering a tank and a skirt, or even a slip dress, it’s all covered up!
Don’t stress it, just think through pieces that you have that you could probably be throwing on under to make it a full look.
Sheer is so fun, to get to play with layers, either totally covering up under or letting it be a little spicy, there’s so many ways to play with it.

As you’re putting together some sheer outfits, just remember to have fun with it! This is a casual, fun, and fashion forward trend so it doesn’t have to be so serious.
Fall in love with this trend for the summer and have a fun and flirty style.
